President of FC Barcelona, Sandro Rosell, said Thursday that while he will be at the club, will do “everything possible and impossible” that Lionel Messi not leave the Catalan group.
“As long as I’m the president of FC Barcelona, I will do everything possible and even impossible for Messi to stay at Barcelona,” said Rosell. “It is extremely difficult, not to say impossible, for Messi to leave the team,” added the head of Barcelona.
Two days ago, the FC Barcelona vice-president Javier Faus was skeptical of the need of Messi’s contract modification. “To extend his contract? Why? His contract has already been reviewed six months ago,” said Faus.
In spring Lionel Messi has signed a contract extension that is due in 2018, with a termination clause of 250 million euros.
But bringing the Brazilian Neymar this summer seemed to change the balance in the Catalan team regardind salaries. On the other hand, Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid, the great rival of Messi, signed a new contract in September, running until 2018.
According to journalists from Marca, Ronaldo has a salary of 17 million euros per season, while Messi is paid with 16 million per season.
