FIFA directs Swiss FA to execute decision related to transfer ban on FC Sion

by Football Pub on Thursday, October 6th, 2011

The FIFA Emergency Committee has directed the Swiss Football Association (SFA) to immediately execute the decision of the Swiss Football League’s appeal body which became final and binding after the club FC Sion/Olympique des Alpes SA (OLA) withdrew its appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The decision rejected the initial request of OLA to register six players for the 2011 summer transfer period.

Furthermore, the FIFA Emergency Committee expressed its full support for the decision taken by UEFA confirming that the six players signed by OLA during the last transfer period were not entitled to participate in the UEFA Europa League and declaring the matches in which these players participated forfeit.

The Swiss FA has also been reminded of its obligation, in accordance with the FIFA Statutes, to ensure that its own members comply with the Statutes, regulations, directives and decisions of FIFA bodies.

Finally, it should be noted that both FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter and UEFA President Michel Platini declined to participate in this issue due to their nationality and involvement in the case respectively.
